Who has made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant, not of the letter but of the Spirit; for the letter kills, but the Spirit gives life.- 1 Corinthians 3:6
There are certain scriptures in the Bible that tradition has used to cast evil or darkness on a God of perfect light, the verse above tells us why. A literal (by the letter) reading of the Bible brings death and with it darkness. In this section we will attempt to shed some light where others have cast shadows.
Romans 9
Does God really hate Esau? Does God arbitrarily harden peoples hearts? Does this chapter tell us that God decided before the world began who will be saved and who will be lost?
What about the flood, Sodom and Gomorrah, David numbering Israel, the Lord sending Saul an evil spirit and other Old Testament scripture that seem to show there is a dark side to God? What about Job?
The Lord gave, and the Lord has taken away;
blessed be the name of the Lord. - Job 1:21
God never said this, Job did. What tradition has not told you is Job and his friends made MANY comments that God disagreed with. In fact after Job and his friends finished their delusional discussion God shows up and tells them Himself.
Pauls thorn in the flesh
Many of us have been told that Pauls thorn in the flesh was a sickness or disease that God put or allowed to be put on Paul to teach him humilty. Is this the truth?
John 9 - The man born blind
Tradition has told us that God caused the man in this story to be born blind for the sole purpose of healing him later. Does that sound like Jesus to you?
